    Introduction

You can add and manage subscription plans for your video and/or audio streaming platform. By adding subscription plans you can charge your subscribers/viewers on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis to subscribe to your content. You can set up automatic renewals and also offer free trials to the end users. All the subscription plans you configure will be displayed on the registration page of your website/App. End-users can select and buy any subscription plan from the registration page.

Note: First, you need to integrate a Payment Gateway (Monetization -> Payment Gateways) to enable subscription monetization.

    How to Enable/Disable Subscription

Before adding a Subscription plan, first, you need to enable this feature in the CMS.

    • To enable Subscription, navigate to “Monetization” -->“Settings” in the Dashboard.
    • Click on the Monetization Settings tab.
    • Under “Pricing”, enable “Subscription”.
    • The subscription monetization will be enabled.
    • If you want, you can disable the subscription monetization.

    Adding a Subscription Plan

    • To add a new subscription plan, navigate to “Monetization--> Pricing Plans” in the Dashboard.
    • Then click on the “Subscription” tab.
    • Click on "Add Subscription".
    • In the Plan Name field, type a plan name—for example, Gold, Silver, Premium, Standard, Basic, etc.
    • In the "Short Description" field, briefly describe the subscription plan.
    • Choose the subscription plan duration (Daily, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly, etc.) from the drop-down list. You can also add a custom duration.
    • Type the Subscription Fee for the plan. The subscription plan will be added to the default currency. However, you can add multiple currencies to your subscription plan. Also, you can add a specific price for a specific country. Simply click on "Add More Price for Specific Country". Users in a specific country will see the content price in their currency when they click on the content to purchase it and will be charged in their currency. (For example, a user in Japan will see the price of the subscription plan in Yen even though the default currency is set to the US dollar.) As currencies are not converted automatically, you have to convert the currency manually. For example, if your default currency is the US Dollar and you are adding currency for India, then you need to convert the value of the US Dollar to Indian Rupees manually and then add.
    • Select the check box for “Free Trial Period” if you want to give your subscribers a free trial. Select the desired free trial period from the drop-down list. (i.e., 1 Day, 7 Days, 14 Days, 1 Month, 3 Months, etc.). You can also add a custom free trial period.
    • Click on “Save”. The subscription plan will be added, and the end users can view it once they sign up to your website/app.

Adding a Specific Content Subscription Plan

The “Specific Content Subscription Plan” feature allows you to create multiple customized bundle subscription plans by selecting specific content categories or sub-categories. This allows you to create small, low-cost packages that make high-quality content more accessible to your end-users.

By offering targeted subscription plans, you can revolutionize the way content is consumed. Instead of paying for a full subscription with content that may not be relevant or of interest, the end-users now have the option to subscribe to specific categories or sub-categories that align with their needs and preferences. To know how to create a "Specific Content Subscription Plan," click here.

    Editing a Subscription Plan

A subscription plan in the Muvi platform cannot be directly edited by the store admin from the CMS once it is created. If you need to modify the plan details, such as the pricing, features, or duration, you must submit a support ticket to Muvi’s support team.

However, you can only modify the subscription plan name and/or short description in the Dashboard.

    • To modify the plan name and/or short description, navigate to "Monetization" -->"Pricing Plans" in the Dashboard.
    • Click on the "Subscription" tab
    • To edit a specific subscription plan, click on the "Edit Icon" on the right-hand side of that plan.
    • When asked for the confirmation, click on "Proceed".
    • Change the "Plan Name" and/or "Short Description".
    • Click on "Save".
Note: If you edit the price of an existing subscription plan, then both the existing and new subscribers will be charged the new price for the same subscription plan.

    Enable/Disable a Subscription Plan

To Disable a particular subscription plan, you need to follow these steps.

    • Navigate to “Monetization-->"Pricing" in the CMS.
    • Click on the "Subscription" tab.
    • Click on the 3 dots on the right-hand side of a subscription plan that you want to disable.
    • When asked for confirmation, click on “Proceed” to disable the plan
    • Once the subscription plan is disabled, the users will not be able to view it on the website/app.
    • Similarly, if you wish you can also enable a subscription plan that was already disabled. Simply click on “Enable” and then click on “Proceed” when asked for the confirmation.

    Make Default Subscription Plan

You can make any subscription plan a default plan. When the end-users visit the ‘Registration Page’, they can see the selected default plan. They can purchase the default plan or select any other plan.

    • Navigate to “Monetization--> Pricing Plans” in the Dashboard.
    • Click on the "Subscription" tab.
    • Click on the 3 dots on the right-hand side of a plan that you want to make as a default plan.
    • Click on “Make Default”.
    • Click on “Proceed” when asked for confirmation.
    • The end-users can see the default subscription plan on the registration page of your website/app.

How End-Users Buy a Subscription Plan

All the Subscription Plans added by the Admin are displayed on the website/app. End-users can view these plans after they sign up. They can select a specific plan to buy it. When a new user buys a subscription plan, he/she will be able to view all the content on your website/app for a certain duration (One Month, Three Months, Six Months, One Year)

    • To buy a subscription plan, end-users need to click on the “Signup” button to register themselves.
    • Once they are registered, they can view the subscription plans added by the admin.
    • Then need to select a plan from the list.
    • Click on "Proceed to Checkout".
    • They need to provide their Credit Card details on the next page and click on “Pay Now”.
    • When the end-users buy the subscription plan, they will get an email notification.
    • End-users can view the plan they have purchased under their “Profile,” and they can also view the details of their purchase in the “Purchase History”. They can also view and download the "Receipt".
    • Once the end-users have purchased the subscription plan, the Admin can view the details of the subscribers in the CMS under “User Management” -->"User Details".
Note: If you have enabled the Free Trial for a subscription plan, and an end-user purchased that plan, then the end-user will not get charged during the Free Trial. If the end-user purchases the plan with a Free Trial, he/she will not be able to view the "Purchase History" and "Invoice" as it will be only displayed once the Free Trial period is over and the end-user becomes a subscriber.

How a Subscriber is Billed (At the Beginning of Cycle)

When a new subscriber wants to register to your website, he/she must select a subscription plan, along with that, he/she needs to provide his/her credit card information. If the subscriber selects a subscription plan with a free trial period, then once the free trial period is over, the subscription amount will be automatically charged from the credit card associated with the account. Then afterward, the subscriber will be charged on the same date of every month if he/she has selected a monthly plan. If the subscriber selects a 3-month plan, 6-month plan, or 1-year plan, then he/she will be charged accordingly.

If a subscriber selects a plan that does not have a free trial period, then he/she will be charged immediately, and his/her billing cycle starts from that date. For example, if a subscriber selects a monthly plan on the 10th of a particular month, then he/she will be charged next on the 10th of the next month.

    Adding Subscription Cancel Reasons

You can add subscription cancellation reasons, so that when your end-users cancel the subscription plan that they have already purchased, they can select the reason from the list and then cancel.

    • To add subscription cancel reasons, navigate to “Monetization--> Settings” in the Dashboard.
    • Click on the "Cancellation Reason" tab.
    • Already, some reasons have been added. You can add new reasons. When you add a new reason, the pre-existing reasons will be deleted.
    • Click on “Add Cancel Reason”
    • Type the cancel reason and click on “Save”. The cancellation reason will be added, and you can view it in the list. You can repeat the process to add more cancellation reasons.
    • You can also “Edit” or “Delete” a cancel reason(s)

How an End-User Cancels the Subscription

End-users can cancel the subscription at any time they want.
    • To cancel the subscription, click on “My Profile”.
    • Scroll down and to see the ‘Active’ subscription plan.
    • Click on “Cancel Plan”.
    • Select the cancel reason from the list and click on “Cancel Subscription”. The subscription plan will be cancelled.
    • The end-user also gets an email notification that his/her subscription plan is cancelled.

What Happens When a Subscriber Cancels

A subscriber can cancel his/her account at any time he/she wants. Also, you can remove any subscriber when it is required. When a subscriber cancels his/her account, he/she will not be able to access any content from your website. However, the subscriber can browse your website. After cancelling his/her account, when a subscriber logs in next time, he/she will see a reactivation page. (Which increases your revenue potential and prevents misuse). After deactivating his/her account, the subscriber can enjoy all the benefits of a paid subscriber.

    Note:
    • Once the subscriber cancels his/her subscription, he/she can complete their subscription term (monthly, yearly, etc.), and then after the subscription term is over, the subscriber will not be able to access any content on your website.

    What Happens On Payment Failure

We take the following actions in case of a payment failure during the charge of a subscriber’s credit card.

    • If any subscription fails during the charge of the card, then we immediately send a payment failure email to the Subscriber and the respective Admin simultaneously.
    • We send 1st reminder email to the subscriber only after 2 days of failure in payment.
    • A final reminder goes to the user after 2 days of 1st reminder, mentioning the cancellation date.
    • We cancel his/her subscription after 2 days of final reminder or within 6 days from the date of payment failure.  This cancellation notification goes to both the subscriber and the respective Admin for their information.
    • We delete all data except the email address of the user after 30 days of the cancellation of the subscription, without notifying the subscriber and Admin. (However, we do not delete any logs of the subscriber)
Note:  If the subscriber adds or updates any Credit Card within the days between payment failure and cancellation, then we simply charge the due amount and send the invoice to the corresponding subscriber as well as to the Admin.

Assign Multiple Plans to the End-Users

As an admin, you can assign multiple subscription plans to the end users.

    • Navigate to "User Management" → "Users" in the Dashboard.
    • Locate the desired end-user and click on the three-dot menu on the right-hand side.
    • Select "Manage Plan" from the options.
    • Under "Add a Plan", choose the subscription plans from the drop-down you want to assign.
    • Click "Add Plan" to confirm.
    • The selected plans will be successfully assigned to the end-user.
    • You can view it under the "Active Plans".
