How to Skip the Encoding Process

Introduction

The Skip Encoding feature allows you to bypass the encoding process for your media files (video and audio), saving time and cost. This feature will deliver the media file in its original format, allowing end users to watch the content without any additional processing.

Benefits of Using Skip Encoding

• Faster Processing: Skip the usual encoding process, which takes a few minutes.
• Cost-Effective: Reduce encoding costs by skipping this step.
• Original Format: End users can watch the media in its original resolution and format without re-encoding.

How to Enable Skip Encoding

The skip encoding feature can be enabled from the Muvi One CMS.

• To enable the skip encoding feature, click on the "Encoding" menu in the Dashboard.
• Click on “Add Profile”.
• Type the “Profile Name” (e.g., No Encoding Video, No Encoding Audio, etc.).
• Select the “Source Type” (e.g., “Video” or “Audio”).
• Select “Skip Encoding”.
• Click on “Save”. The new encoding profile will be created.

How to Use Skip Encoding

You can select the skip encoding profile you created while creating the content in the CMS. Once the skip encoding profile is selected, the video/audio will not be encoded.

• Navigate to “Content Management” -->” Content Library” in the Dashboard.
• Click on “Add New”.
• Type/Select all the required metadata information.
• Under “Add Primary Media”, click on “Add”.
• In the“Encoding Profile”, select the encoding profile you created (i.e., Skip Encoding profile).
• Click on "Choose Files" to upload the media file. You can also drag and drop the media file using the folder icon.
• You can upload the media file in MP4, WMV, MOV, FLV, VOB, m4v, mkv, avi, 3gp, mpg, and mxf formats.
• Provide the advanced content details like poster, banner, monetization, description, etc.
• Click on “Save and Publish”.
• The content will be created, and there will be no encoding.
• On the front end, the end-users can watch the content in its original format.

Limitations of Skip Encoding

While the Skip Encoding feature is timesaving, there are a few limitations to be aware of:

• No DRM Support: Digital Rights Management (DRM) features will not be available.
• No Progressive Encoding: You will not be able to use progressive encoding, which allows the media to load gradually as it streams.
• No Per-Title Encoding: Custom resolution or bitrate adjustments for specific content will not be applied.
• No Resolution Selection: End users will not have the option to select different resolutions in the front-end player.
