Enabling Forensic Watermarking

Introduction

Muvi’s Forensic Watermarking feature embeds invisible, session-specific identifiers into your videos, allowing leaked or pirated copies to be traced back to the original viewer. Unlike visible logos or text, it cannot be removed and remains even in screen-recorded files.

Key Details

• Embedded Info: Site URL, viewer details (email, IP, device/session ID, phone number if available), and date.
• Viewer Experience: No impact on playback or quality; every session is uniquely watermarked.
• Playback Rules: If identifiers are missing, playback is blocked until the issue is resolved.

Piracy Handling

1. Report: Admins can report pirated content via the Muvi Supportr with the URL and content details.
2. Detection: The watermark is extracted from the pirated copy, revealing the account/session that leaked it.

Enabling Forensic Watermarking

• To enable “Forensic Watermarking”, navigate to “Player” -->” Encoding Profiles” in the CMS.
• Click on “Add Profile”.
• Type the “Profile Name”.
• Select the “Forensic Watermarking” option (see the screenshot below).
• Click on “Save”.
• The encoding profile will be created.
• While adding content, select the profile you created for the forensic watermark. The forensic watermark will be applied to the content automatically.
