How to Add Users to TestFlight for iOS and TV OS App Testing

Introduction

TestFlight allows you to invite users to test your iOS and tvOS app builds before making them available to your end-users. You can add internal testers through App Store Connect and then provide them access to your app through a TestFlight testing group.

Benefits

Using TestFlight to add internal testers allows you to:

• Invite users to test pre-release app builds.
• Manage testers through App Store Connect.
• Give eligible App Store Connect users access to your TestFlight testing groups.
• Distribute available builds to testers before public release.

Prerequisites

Before adding a tester, make sure:

• You have access to App Store Connect.
• You have the tester's first name, last name, and email address.
• The tester can access the invitation email and sign in with or create an Apple Account.
• A build is available in TestFlight when you are ready for the tester to start testing.

Workflow

The TestFlight internal testing process involves the following steps:

Add user to App Store Connect → Accept App Store Connect invitation → Add user to TestFlight group → Receive TestFlight invitation → Install TestFlight → Install the app

Step 1: Add the Tester to App Store Connect

• Sign in to App Store Connect.
• Go to Users and Access.
• Click on the “People” tab.
• Click on the “+” icon (see the screenshot below).

• You can see a pop-up to add a new user.
• Type the user’s “First Name”, “Last Name,” and “Email Address” in the corresponding fields. (The tester's email address does not need to be associated with an Apple Account. The tester can use the invitation to activate the account with an Apple Account.)
• Under “Roles”, select the roles (Any role you can select. However, for normal testing, you can select “Marketing”)
• Click on “Next” (see the screenshot below).

• Select the “App” from the drop-down menu (see the screenshot below).

Step 2: Ask the Tester to Accept the App Store Connect Invitation

After you send the invitation, the tester receives an email.

Ask the tester to:

• Open the invitation email.
• Click Accept Invitation.
• Sign in with an existing Apple Account or create an Apple Account.

Step 3: Open TestFlight for Your App

After the tester has accepted and activated their App Store Connect account:

• Go to App Store Connect.
• Select Apps.
• Select your app.
• Click TestFlight.

Step 4: Add the User to a TestFlight Group

• Open the TestFlight group where you want to add the tester.
• Go to the Testers
• Click on the "+" icon or Invite Testers.

• The App Store Connect Users list appears.
• Select the checkbox next to the user you added earlier.
• Click Add.

Step 5: Accept the TestFlight Invitation

After the tester has been added to the internal testing group and a build is available, the tester receives a TestFlight invitation email.

On the tester's iPhone or iPad:

• Install TestFlight from the App Store.
• Open the TestFlight invitation.
• Accept the invitation.
• Open TestFlight
• Tap your app.
• Tap Install.
