Introduction

Muvi Live enables you to broadcast high-quality live streams with minimal setup. In this help article, we explain how to stream using Muvi Live along with a third-party streaming software or encoder via the SRT protocol. To get started, you’ll first need to create your Muvi Live account to set up your live streams.

Creating a New Live Stream

Creating a live stream is a 2-step process. In the first step, add the basic details of the live stream. In the second step, you need to add advanced options like poster/banners, monetization, security, etc.

Step 1:

Navigate to “Content Management” à “Content Library” in the Dashboard.
In the “Content Library”, click on “Add New”.
Click on the “Edit Icon” to type the live stream name.
In the “Content Type”, select “Live Stream”.
In the “Encoding Profile” select an encoding profile from the drop-down. If you have not created any encoding profile, you can select the default profile.
In “Categories”, select a category from the list. You can select multiple categories also.
Click on “Manage Source” to select the source for your live stream.
Select “Encoder or Streaming Software – SRT” from the drop-down list.
Select the “Nearest Location” from the drop-down menu. You can select the server from your nearest location for better streaming output.
Click on “Save and Continue”.

Step 2:

Click on the “Design Tab” to add a poster for the live stream.
Click on the “+” icon to upload a poster from your local computer or from the Assets.
Click on the “Monetization” tab if you want to monetize your live streams.
You can also enable “Advertisements” to integrate Ads to your live streams.
Click on the “Security Tab” to add Geo-Blocks for your live streams. You can block your live streams for specific countries.
You can enable “Password” to protect your live streams with a password (optional).
Click on the “Advanced” tab to enable the “Auto Record” options for the live stream. The live stream will automatically record and once the live stream is stopped, it will be available in the “Assets” in content library.
Type a “Story or Description" about the live stream.
You can “Search Tags” for the live stream.
Click on “Save” to save the details.

How to Get the Stream Key and Stream URL

Stream URL and Stream Key are essentially required when you are live-streaming using an encoder or streaming software. You need to configure the Stream URL and Stream Key in the encoder. You can get these details in the “Stream Info” for the live stream.

To get the Stream Key and Stream URL, navigate to “Content Management” -->” Content Library” in the Dashboard.
In the “Content Library”, under the live stream that you created, click on “Stream Info”.
You can view the “Stream URL” and the “Stream Key”.
You can copy the Stream URL and Stream Key and configure them in the encoder.

Configuring the Encoder/Streaming Software

First, you need to download and install an encoder or streaming software on your computer. You can use encoders such as OBS, vMix, Switcher Studio, Wirecast, Streamlabs, and others. In this help article, we demonstrate how to set up and start live streaming using OBS.

Adding Scenes and Sources:

Open OBS encoder from your computer.
Click on the “+” icon under the “Scenes” in the bottom left corner of the OBS interface.
Type the scene name (e.g., Scene 1, Scene 2, Field View, Audience View, etc.)
You can add multiple scenes.
Under the “Sources,” click on the “+” icon to add a source for the scene.
You can select from multiple sources.
For each scene, a different source can be added.

Adding Stream Key and Stream URL:

You need to configure the Stream Key and Stream URL that you already obtained from Live Stream (in Muvi Dashboard) into the OBS.

Navigate to “File” -->” Settings” in the OBS interface.
Click on “Stream”.
In “Service”, select “Custom” from the drop-down menu.
Under the “Destination,” you can see the “Server” and “Stream Key” fields.
In the “Server” field, paste the “Stream URL” you copied from the Muvi Dashboard.
In the “Stream Key” field, paste the Stream Key you copied from the Muvi Dashboard.
Click on “Apply” and then “OK”.
The encoder configuration is now completed.

Sharing the Live Stream

After starting the live stream, you can share it with your end-users. There are different sharing options available. You can share the live stream using the direct “Shareable Link,” the “HLS URL,” or via the “Embed Code”. You can also share using all the options.

To get the sharing options for the live stream, click on the “Share Icon” under the live stream content.
Shareable Link: You can directly share this link with your end-users, and they can open this link in their web browser and watch the live stream.
HLS URL: You can share the HLS URL of the live stream with your end-users. They use any HLS player to watch the live stream using the HLS URL in the player.
Embed Code: You can add the embed code of the live stream to any website. Your end-users can view the live stream via the embedded player.

Ending the Live Stream

You can either stop the live stream from the Content Library in the Dashboard or from the “Encoder”.
To end or stop an active live stream from the Dashboard, click on the “Stop” button under an active live stream in the Content Library.
It will take a few seconds, and the live stream will be stopped.
In the encoder, click on the “Stop Streaming” button. The live stream will be stopped.

Note: If you want to pause the live stream temporarily for a few minutes and resume it later, it’s recommended to stop the stream from the encoder. However, if your live event has ended and you want to stop the stream permanently, you should end the live stream from the Dashboard. This helps prevent unnecessary consumption of streaming hours.
