Getting Started with User Generate Content (UGC)

    Introduction

The User Generated Content or UGC feature allows your end-users to upload their content to your website/app. Users can add content, upload videos, edit content, or delete the content from the front end. Whereas, in the CMS you (admin) can “Approve the Content”, "Reject" the content, and edit and/or delete the content that has been uploaded by the end-users. Once the content is uploaded by the end user, the monetization methods configured in the CMS by the store admin will be automatically applied to the end user’s content by default.

    Note:

    • The UGC feature is a "Premium" feature. It is available for Muvi Professional and above plans.
    • All the monetization methods (Subscription, PPV) already set for the store will be automatically applied to the UGC content once it is approved by the store admin.
    • At present, end-users/non-admins cannot set any monetization method (Subscription, PPV) for the UGC content they upload.
    • At present, the end-users can only upload single video content (i.e., movies, video clips, short videos, etc).

    Enabling User-Generated Content Feature

    • To allow your end-users to add content to your website/app, first, you need to enable “User Generated Content” in the CMS.
    • Navigate to “Content Management” -->“Content Settings” in the CMS.
    • Click on the “Settings Tab”.
    • Under the "General Settings", scroll down to "User Generated Contents”.
    • Enable "Allow users to upload content".
    • Enable “Content Review Workflow” if you want to first review the content uploaded by the end-users and then give your approval to publish it on the website. If you do not approve the content, then it will not be available on the website/app. If you do not select this option, then all the content uploaded by the users will automatically get approved.
    • Under “Profile Page”, select “Allow users to own a page” if you want your end-users to have their front-end.

    How End-Users Can Upload Content

    • Once you will enable the “User Generated Content” in the CMS, the users will see an upload icon (Camera Icon) on the left-hand side of their profile after they log in to your website.
    • Users need to click on the “Upload Icon” to upload content.
    • In the popup window, they need to type the content “Title” (name of a movie, video clip).
    • Select the content “Category” from the drop-down (they can select from the content categories already added by the admin).
    • Need to type the “Description” about the content.
    • Users need to click on the “Upload Video” icon on the right-hand side to select and upload a video from their device.
    • Then click on “Upload” to add the content.
    • If the admin has enabled the “Review content before publish” option in the CMS, then the content will not get published immediately on the front end.
    • The content will be in the “Pending Approval” stage.
    • It will be get published on the front end once the admin approves it in the CMS.
Note: The poster (thumbnail) for the content will be automatically added. The poster will be randomly selected from the screenshots captured from the video uploaded by the end user. The admin can also change the poster image from the CMS through the content edit option.

    Approve/Reject User-Generated Content

If the admin has enabled the “Review content before publish” option in the CMS, then the content added by the end-user will not get published immediately on the front end. The content will be in the “Pending Approval” stage. It will be published on the front end once the admin approves it in the CMS. If the admin doesn’t want to publish the content, they can reject it from the CMS.

    • To approve the end-user’s content, navigate to “Content Management” -->” Content Library” in the CMS.
    • You can view the end user’s content that is showing the content status as "Approval Pending".
    • Click on the “Edit Icon” below the content you want to review and approve.
    • In the 'Content Edit' page, click on “Approve and Publish”.
    • Once it is approved, the encoding process will start.
    • Once the encoding process is completed, the content will be published on the front end.
    • The end-user will get a notification via email that the content is published.
    • The end-user can also view the content status, which has been changed to “Published”, under “My Upload” on the website.
    • If you want to reject the content, click on “Reject” and provide a reason for rejecting the content.
    • The content will not get published. You can also delete the content from the CMS.
    • The end-user will get an email for the rejection of the content.
